A PAIR OF STAINED HUALIMU ELEPHANTS WITH INSET FANS
LATE 19TH CENTURY
Each elephant with is carved standing foursquare wearing an ornate bridle and caparisoned with a side cloth decorated in low relief with a dragon amongst scroll clouds. It stands on a carved rocky surface with on a rectangular base. The baluster vases resting atop are decorated in a scrolling pattern, each is inset with a tall fan with the tips carved, lacquered, and delicately gilt to imitate peacock feathers.
