A CARVED AND PIERCED HARDWOOD EIGHT-FOLD SCREEN WITH INSET BLUE AND WHITE PLAQUES

The plaques are of rectangular, square, and circular form, and they depict the story, The Romance of the Western Chamber, Xixiang Ji. Each wood frame is carved and pierced with bats and squirrels amongst fruiting vine.
Each fold 83? x 17½ in. (211 x 44.7 cm.)
Provenance
Acquired by the vendor's grandfather in Shanghai in the early 1900s.
