FIRST EDITION. Evelyn composed Navigation and Commerce as the introduction to a history of the war between Great Britain and Holland for control of the seas. It caused offence to the Dutch ambassador, and there were rumours of an attempt to suppress it. Evelyn gave the rest of his research to Pepys for his planned history of the Navy but this was subsequently lost. This copy formerly in the British Library. Keynes 92; Sabin 23028; Scott 129; Wing E-3504.
