A SET OF FOUR GEORGE III IRISH SILVER CANDLESTICKS
MAKER'S MARK INDISTINCT, PROBABLY WILLIAM BOND, DUBLIN, CIRCA 1765
On square base, baluster stem, spool shaped sockets and detachable nozzles, with gadrooned borders the bases and nozzles each engraved with a crest and later with an initial 'M' below an earl's coronet, two further later engraved with initials 'CCS', marked on bases, each with scratch-weights '24=13'; '23=11'; '25=18' and '23=11'
9¼ in. (23.5 cm.) high
93 oz. (2,894 gr.)
The crest is that of Pole, almost certainly for William Wellesley-Pole, Baron Maryborough and later 3rd Earl of Mornington (1763-1845), by descent to his daughter Lady FitzRoy Somerset (1792-1881).
