A LONGQUAN CELADON BRUSHWASHER
MING DYNASTY, LATE 14TH/15TH CENTURY
The shallow washer is finely carved to the exterior with a broad band of lotus scrolls and repeated on the interior cavetto, encircling a single floral spray medallion in the centre, below the flaring mouth rim further decorated with a band of scrolling leaves. All covered in a sea-green glaze with exception of the unglazed ring to the underside base.

A Japanese family who collected tea ceremony ceramics, formed in the Meiji period (1868-1912)
