Lot Essay

Herb Bridges obtained this hat from a woman who relayed the following story to him: In 1939 she was an employee at the Atlanta department store, Davison Paxon, when Selznick International Pictures sent them a number of Gone With The Wind costumes to display during the premiere festivities. One such item was this hat which was listed as being Gable's from the film. Later, all costumes were sent back to S.I.P. with the exception of this hat which the woman kept as a souvenir. Many years later, she gave it to Bridges for his collection.
