Illuminated document on vellum, a doctorate of the University of Bologna granted to Nicolo Carlo de Tedeschi of Pisa, signed by Federico Calderini, Chancellor of the University, and by the notary, Bologna, ‘supra Porticum Ecclesiae Metropolitanae’, 14 January 1684, illuminated frontispiece depicting the allegorical presentation by the city of Bologna of a shield bearing a bull's head coat of arms, half-page miniature of the reconciliation of peace and justice, four historiated initials depicting the Immaculate Conception and three saints, text in black ink and liquid gold, in Latin on vellum, six leaves, 230 x 160mm, contemporary calf gilt, red silk ties (a little worn, one defective), seal of Calderini as Chancellor in metal seal case pendant on cords.
