2 parts, 2° (319 x 223mm). Half-title. Engraved title to second part, portrait of the dedicatee Maffeo Barberini, plate of Barberini heraldic devices within architectural frame, portrait of the author, numerous engraved text-illustrations of which 5 full-page, woodcut initials and head- and tailpieces. (First part lacking engraved title a2 and with dedication leaf a3 bound after b10; second part with very short marginal tear to K8 and lacking final blank; occasional minor, unobtrusive staining to lower margin, becoming heavier to last few gatherings.) 19th-century green half calf (extremities rubbed). VERY RARE FIRST EDITION, YATES THOMPSON - BRIGHT COPY. Only two copies can be traced as selling at auction since 1975 (both at Christie's Rome, 10 December 1991 for L3,378,150 and 17 June 2004 for €4712). Graesse II,573.
