8° (154 x 88mm). Engraved title page, seven full-page illustrations by Sadeler, engraved printer's device on colophon leaf. (Spotting throughout, colophon leaf repaired at inner margin.) Early 19th-century red morocco, gilt crest of the Duke of Marlborough on sides enclosed by fenestration in blind, gilt-ruled and blind-roll borders, spine directly lettered and tooled on bands and in panels, drab endpapers, gilt edges. Provenance: George Spencer-Churchill (5th Duke of Marlborough, 1766-1840; binding) -- White Knights Library sale, 28 June 1819, lot 3423, £3-13-6 to Clarke ('plates by Sadeler, fine impressions, red morocco') -- S.A. Thompson Yates (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. SPENCER-CHURCHILL COPY, bound in red morocco with the Marlborough crest. The two coronets forming part of the crest are of Baron Spencer and the Duke of Marlborough. On-line ABPC records just one copy at auction. Landwehr German, 302; not in Brunet.
