12° (125 x 75mm). Engraved title and 12 full-page emblematic illustrations by Hollar. Woodcut head- and tailpieces. (Title lightly soiled, paper flaw in margin of K1, light mainly marginal soiling throughout.) Contemporary calf (head of spine chipped, extremities rubbed, a few light stains on sides, lacks rear endpaper). Provenance: Thomas Blair (inscription on front endpaper and verso of final leaf, dated 1732) – old manuscript notes on verso of title (listing distances in miles to several towns).
FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, first published in German in 1618. Raised a Lutheran but converted to Catholicism in his youth, Drexel was among the most published and read authors of the 17th century.
