The bowl has rounded sides which rise to the everted foliate rim, and is covered inside and out with a glaze of russet color thinning on the foot to expose the pale buff ware.

Two very similar russet-glazed bowls with foliate rims are illustrated in The Masterpieces of Yaozhou Ware, Osaka, 1997, nos. 47 and 48.
