Comprising a mantel clock and busts of Isis and Ramses, the architectural case surmounted by a sphinx, the stylized hieroglyphic dial signed 'MEDAILLE D’OR 1867/G. SERVANT A…', with twin-barrel movement, Brocot suspension and rack striking to bell, stamped 'G*S/MEDAILLE D'OR/1867,' 'MEDAILLE DE BRONZE/S Marti & Cie' and '1257', the door to the movement with a label G*S/G.SERVANT/BRONZIER/RUE VIEILLE DU TEMPLE/137/PARIS, all stamped G*S/MEDAILLE D’OR/1867, the busts both signed 'EMILE HEBERT'

Lot Essay

The Parisian bronzier and fondeur G. Servant produced a diverse range of objects from his premises at 137, rue Vieille-du-Temple. Specializing in Egyptian and Greek Revival pieces, he was a medalist at the major international exhibitions between 1867 and 1887. A garniture of the same model was sold Christie's, South Kensington, 7 February 2001, lot 123 (£22,325).
