FIRST EDITION, IN THE ORIGINAL WRAPPERS. In the 1870s Degas began a series of brothel scenes which broke with the conventions of academic and classical nudes. Degas produced a folder of monotypes from these, which Vollard acquired and selected to illustrate this treatment of Lucian's morality sketches. Maurice Potin toiled for six years to capture the character of Degas's work. One of 305 copies, this one number 81.
