Details
[HUGNET, Georges (1904-1974) and DOMINGUEZ, Oscar (1906-1957).] Le Feu au cul. [Paris: Robert Godet, 1943.]

Small oblong octavo (100 x 150 mm). Text printed in dark green. Engraved half-title and title, 17 illustrations printed in red over the text, and two etchings by Dominguez. (4 leaves with minor spotting in the margin.) 20th-century blue morocco, original illustrated wrappers bound in, spine gilt lettered, top edge gilt (spine very faintly faded).

FIRST EDITION OF THIS FINE COLLABORATION BETWEEN HUGNET AND DOMINGUEZ, published during the wartime occupation. Dominguez's overtly sexual work, as here, ‘demonstrated an unceasing preoccupation with the subconscious, with automatism and with unfettered spontaneity, all of which made him one of the most characteristic and loyal adherents of the Surrealist movement’ (Grove). One of only 53 copies, this one number 35. RARE: AE and ABPC record only one copy at auction, the Filipacchi copy (Christie’s Paris, 29 April 2004, lot 131). WorldCat locates copies only at Yale and at the New York Public Library. Dutel 1571.
