Lot Essay

A merchant by profession, van Rensselaar was a gifted amateur draughtsman who was honorary member of the Amsterdamse Tekenacademie from 1787 until his death in 1795. Only a handful of his drawings are known today and based on stylistic similarities, Robert-Jan te Rijdt has suggested that van Rensselaar possibly made the present drawing after a drawing by Daniël Dupré (1751-1817).

We are grateful to Robert-Jan te Rijdt for his assistance in preparing this catalogue entry.
