DIGHTON, Robert. The Twelve Months. London: Carrington Bowles, [c. 1790].
2º (422 x 320mm). 12 colour-printed mezzotint plates after Dighton, finished by hand, sheets 390 x 284mm., tipped into an album with 4 similar coloured mezzotints of the Four Seasons, also published by Carrington Bowles, interleaved. (Margins trimmed, ‘December’ with 60mm. closed tear into image, a few other plates with tears and repairs at margins, ‘Spring’ slightly dampstained.) Mid 20th-century black half morocco, black morocco gilt title label on front cover, spine with raised bands directly lettered in gilt. Provenance: purchased from Newman, Old Print Shop, New York, 1950.
BEAUTIFUL COLOUR PLATES showing a young woman dressed to the height of fashion to suit each month and each season of the year. The plates are individually titled and carry the publisher’s serial numbers 526-537 and 497-500. No watermarks.
