AUGSBURG, 1644-1647, MAKER'S MARK M, POSSIBLY FOR THEODOR MENTH
Of oblong form on four openwork cast foliate scroll and grotesque mask feet, with foliage borders, the long side applied with grotesque mask, with oval laurel and rosette cartouches including scenes of putti in landscapes, the hinged domed cover applied on the angles with winged cherubim masks and scrolls and with grotesque masks on the long sides, the cover with putto astride a dolphin, finial possibly later, the base with a drawer, the interior of the cover with hinged grill, pierced and chased with flowers and foliage, engraved underneath with initials VK and numbers 1456 and 1256, marked on cover and underside of casket, the drawer unmarked
