LIÉVRE, Edouard (1828-1886). Les arts décoratifs à toutes les époques. Paris: Morel, 1870.

2 volumes, 2o (442 x 333 mm). Half-title, title-page and some text printed in red and black, 120 plates comprising 100 chromolithographic and 20 engraved plates. (Some light mostly marginal spotting). Contemporary red half morocco, marbled boards (some light rubbing with some loss to leather).

FIRST EDITION of Liévre's illustrated compendium of decorative arts. Arranged in chronological order, the collection of beautifully printed color plates traces a history of decoration and ornament including textiles, ceramics, glass, wood, and metal. This work was an important reference during the preparation of the Paris Exhibition in 1878, and was a highly influential publication in dispersing Japanese and Eastern styles as inspiration for Impressionism and Art Nouveau.
