Engraved hand-colored double-hemisphere world map, image 475 x 360 mm. With two smaller celestial hemispheres and insets of northern and southern skies, on a background depicting stars, the sun, the moon, cherubs and windheads. (Repaired tear at center fold.) Matted and framed (not examined out of frame).

Homann, the leading German cartographer of his time, designed this map and it was published posthumously by his heirs. It is one of the most decorative 18th century world maps.
