A CARVED RED AND GOLD LACQUER SNUFF BOTTLE
JAPAN, 1850-1910
Each side is carved with a tapering oval panel, one enclosing a scene of Zhong Kui (Shoki in Japan), the Demon Queller, subduing a demon with his sword, the other with an immortal standing atop a carp as it swims in the sea, all surrounded by two gold dragons chasing a flaming pearl amidst scrolling clouds between key-fret borders.
2 3/8 in. (6 cm.) high, glass stopper
