Lot Essay

The subject of `antiques’ is somewhat unusual for Yangzhou painted glass snuff bottles; flora and fauna themes are more commonly found. For another unusual Yangzhou painted glass example also decorated with `antiques’ and with a Gu yue xuan mark, see R. Kleiner, The Nordic Butterfly Collection of Chinese Snuff Bottles, Hong Kong, 2010, Part II, p. 140, no. 341.
