A PAIR OF ZITAN LANTERN STANDS, DENGTAI
18TH-19TH CENTURY
Each vertical upright is flanked by spandrels carved in low relief with chilong rising from solid humped feet, and supports a square platform at the top with rounded notched corners and beaded edges. The platform is further supported by hanging spandrels carved in low relief with writhing chilong.
64½ in. (161.4 cm.) high, 19½ in. (49.4 cm.) wide, 19½ in. (49.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

An almost identical pair of zitan lantern stands, dating to the 18th century, and of similar size, can be found in the Liang Yi Collection, illustrated by C. Evarts, Liang Yi Collection: Zitan, Hong Kong, 2007, pp. 110-11.
