A DEHUA FIGURE OF GUANYIN
MING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
The bodhisattva is depicted seated on a lotus throne in vajrasana with the hands held in dhyanamudra, wearing loose flowing robes that open at the chest to reveal a jewelled necklace. The crown on the top of the head features a Buddha. There is a serene expression to the face, with the eyes downcast. The back of the figure is impressed with two seal marks, one with the potter's name Chun Yu and the other with the characters Hui Jiang Shanren which may be translated as 'the Hermit Hui Jiang'.
16 1/8 in. (41 cm.) high

Provenance

From a private French collection, removed from a manor in the Loire Valley.
