Lot Essay

Marius Bauer originally depicted a horse next to the well which he later removed to improve the composition (see: early images of the painting in the Van Wisselingh Archive, RKD, The Hague). We wish to thank the Bauer Documentatie Stichting for their help in cataloguing the present lot.
