A CARVED BAMBOO 'QIAO SISTERS' BRUSH POT
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The exterior is carved with the background reduced to reserve a scene in relief depicting two ladies, the famed Qiao Sisters from the Three Kingdoms period, in their study, each dressed in a voluminous robe and their hair tied in high chignons. One sister is depicted holding a book, seated beside a rock table supporting a bronze censer and an archaistic gu holding lotus flowers; her companion reclining behind her, reading the same book. The reverse is left plain.
