A BAMBOO ROOT CARVING OF HANSHAN
EARLY QING DYNASTY, 17TH-18TH CENTURY
The bamboo root is finely carved in the round with a smiling monk, likely to be Hanshan from Hehe erxian, with long flowing robes and hair, holding in his hands a branch of leafy lotus extending on his left shoulder.
