Lot Essay

In production on from 1945 to 1949, reference 4467 represents the beginning of one of the most recognized names in modern horology: the Rolex Datejust. An exceedingly rare timepiece, the first 100 examples were available only through a coupon found on the Genève newspaper “Tribune de Genève”. It was only available in 18K gold with Jubilee bracelet, to emphasize its exclusivity, and it was the first watch entirely made by Rolex, including case and bracelet. Technical necessities dictated by the presence of the rotor commanded quite a large case design for the time, which grants to the piece a gratifying massiveness, measuring 14 mm. in height.
