From its crystal and case to its movement and strap, every single detail of the watch is engineered so that it has the lightest weight possible to ensure comfort and reliability to the wearer while being in the demanding environment of golf course.
In 2012, Richard Mille decided to make improvements on its original design and created the present lot, RM055, also known as the baby Bubba Watson. The case of this particular watch uses different materials to ensure that it can withstand even greater impact. The front bezel of the watch is made of ATZ - an aluminum-zirconium-titanium that can provide superior strength, toughness and scratch resistance. The band of the case is made of grade 5 titanium with a rubber casting that will absorb any vibrations caused by the impact of the motion of a golf swing. The movement of the watch is a further refinement by its predecessor by eliminating unnecessary materials from the baseplate and bridges. As a result, the movement only weighs a mere 4.3 grams.
The present lot is a fine example of how the young watchmaker Richard Mille brought creativity and innovation to the world of horology, using advanced materials or provided the greatest resilience in the most challenging arenas.
