POLENI, Giovanni (1683-1761). Epistolarum mathematicarum fasciculus. Padua: 1729.
4° (285 x 200mm). Woodcut vignette on title, 11 engraved plates, 9 folding. (Small wormhole throughout text.) Contemporary drab boards, uncut (rebacked, light waterstain on front cover, lightly rubbed). Provenance: Biblioteca Riccardi, Modena (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. Poleni had been appointed to the chair of mathematics at Padua in 1719 after it had been vacated by Nicolaus (II) Bernoulli. The present lot is one of his major works, treating of problems in mathematics, astronomy, hydraulics and physics. Riccardi I(ii) 294: ‘Bella e rara edizione’.
