Log book opens with the entry "Log Part IIA Commencing Sept 1917, Ortez France A Naval Squadron" and among many entries includes "Oct 27th 1917, Machine Type and No. HP 1457, lost our undercarriage when taking off through hitting hanger and had to crash to land. Bombed reinforcement camp just over lines. No excitment, started two fires. Was thrown out after crash and got a fortnights rest (will probably have to spend in our little gun pit at night"; "Nov 10th 1917, HP 1457 Bus alright again, myself very 'nervy'. Bombed transport and trains between Courcelles and Metz and fired 350 rounds at searchlights and 'onions'"; "Nov 17th 1917, HP 1457, Bombed Metz (town 'by mistake') 12-112 lbs, Then about 60-6oz incendries at the same objectives. Good hits some small fires and great wind up among ARCHIE and search lights. Engine conked and landed at Montigny emergency ground. Very cold. 250 rounds SA"; "July 13th 1918 HP 3139 Raid on Metz. Crash on landing, Back gunner killed. Pilot and myself to hospital with shock". Log closes back in England in June 1919 with "Total Flying Time 313hrs 25mins.
