Lot Essay

This endangered species strap is shown for display purposes only and is not for sale. The watch will be supplied with a calf leather strap.

An iconic timepiece, the Tank wristwatch was born in 1917 and reinterpreted throughout the years by Cartier. Staying faithful to its origins and the vision of its creator Louis Cartier, the Tank Américaine was introduced in 1989 to match evolving market trends as well as the tastes of collectors. With the United States representing a primordial market for the brand, the wristwatch now featured a more imposing case with pronounced curves and was fitted with a self-winding movement and date window. Made in a multitude of variants, the present timepiece was created with an attractive white gold case and matched with a highly desirable grey flinqué dial with Arabic numerals.
