Lot Essay

The fruit, flower and berry-cast ormolu mounts decorating this mirror as well as lots 216 through 218 in this sale are virtually identical to those decorating the celebrated cradle of the Duc de Bordeaux made by Felix Rémond in 1819 and for which the ormolu mounts were manufactured by the bronziers Danière and Matelin. A bed designed by Jacob-Desmalter in 1809 for the Empress Joséphine at Compiègne is also decorated with cornucopiae of comparable design.
