D.Bolger, Bastardo 1891
Madeira
Bottled from demi-john in 2020. New wax capsules with DB family seal. New stenciling. Levels: into-neck
In cask until 2020, transferred to demi johns of 3.8 liter & larger in 2021.
Originally this cask was stored at the Bolger estate in Quebra Costas, off Rua da Carreira in downtown Funchal. Later on when the house was sold some of the wines were moved to Monte from where this wine was transferred to demi-john.
Tasting note: High toned, expressive nose, quite punchy and touch spirity before revealing softer fudge and richer aromas. Nice complexity and depth. Strong character. Tickles your nose a bit.
Fairly sweet attack of taste, mouth filling flowing out with luscious texture and pleasant mouthfeel. On the after taste pretty rich red fruits with a slight tannic bite. Very attractive appearance of taste while the nose is stricter and pungent. Strong wine of distinctive Bastardo character.
Fresh bright acidity on the long lingering finish appearing from the lovely fruits. I just love the unique style of this Bastardo. April 2021. Edwin Vos
