Cette grenouille ou kitende, est en position accroupie, prête à bondir. Il s’agit d’un exemple exceptionnel dans le corpus de ces figurines zoomorphes, généralement en ivoire, os d’éléphant, bois et argile sculpté.
En décomposant le mot kitende, la signification donnée à cet amphibien s’en trouve éclairée : « dans la pensée Léga, l’image de la grenouille représente un personnage humain, en particulier le nouvel initié. La racine tende du mot kitende est proche du nom utilisé pour le nouvel initié « mu-tende ». Le mot kiten de désigne ainsi métonymiquement le nouvel initié.
