A group of Coptic textile fragments
comprising a clavus band fragment with three connecting roundels each containing stylized lion-like creatures with spots, outer border with finials, woven in mauve on undyed background; two others similar -- 6 x 4½in. (15.2 x 11.5cm.) max.; two attached border panels, one with black scrolling acanthus decoration on red background, the other below with bowls of fruit, foliate and pomegranate motifs within an arched colonnade, black details on undyed ground, woven red line beneath -- 11¾ x 4¼in. (30 x 10.8cm.); a clavus fragment containing square panels with different stylized motifs, one with a huntsman holding a shield, brown-mauve background -- 6¼ x 4¼in. (16 x 10.8cm.); a fragment of a larger panel, with interlaced geometric design, mauve background embroidered with white and undyed thread -- 8 x 3¾in. (20.3 x 9.5cm.); a square fragmentary panel with framed youth in central roundel, four connecting roundels each with a stylized animal within, green and mauve details -- 5½ x 4½in. (14 x 11.5cm.); and four other fragments with woven and embroidered geometric designs including part of a blue wool decorative tunic band with a roundel containing a cross design in bleached linen -- 5 x 4½in. (12.7 x 11.5cm.) max., all 6th-10th Century A.D. (11)
