Launched in celebration of the new millennium, Patek Philippe introduced reference 5100R-001 Gondolo in 2000. The timepiece features a large, whimsical, 18k rose gold rectangular-shaped case. The sides of the case flare outward and draw inspiration from the 1950s Patek Philippe reference 2554, nicknamed the “Manta Ray.” Concave and convex elements are utilized throughout the case, and an aesthetically pleasing, streamline, design helps the watch wear prominently on the wrist.
The dial is silvered grey in color and shimmers with delight, complimenting the luster of the rose gold case. A closer inspection of the seemingly ordinary timepiece reveals an incredible sight. Thanks to double mainspring barrels, the watch boasts an impressive 10-day power reserve, much longer ordinary timepieces. The reverse has a sapphire caseback unveiling the impressive and appropriately shaped movement. Reference 5100R is a beguiling, splendid wristwatch that marks an important moment in time, and would make an excellent addition to any serious watch collection.
To the best of our knowledge, this watch has never been publicly offered at auction before.
