Lot Essay

Both sides decorated with a central gorgon with wings outspread, flanked by three figures either side. A swan under each handle. The tondo with a swan within a border of buds. Cf. J. Boardman, Athenian Black Figure Vases, London, 1993, pp. 31-33 for the development of Siana cups and fig. 44 for another by the Civico Painter.
