Lot Essay

Both sides decorated with a seated winged female-headed sphinx, flanked by draped male and females figures. A swan under each handle. The tondo with a swan within a border of red and black tongues. Cf. J. Boardman, Athenian Black Figure Vases, London, 1993, pp. 31-33 for the development of Siana cups and fig. 44 for another by the Civico Painter.
