Lot Essay

Dogs were popular subjects in micromosaic and Antonio Aguatti's spaniel illustrated in J. Hanisee Gabriel, The Gilbert Collection. Micromosaics, London, 2000, p. 75, no. 23 was widely copied by other micromosaicists. Although the one presented here is unsigned it is made with a wide colour palette giving the composition a painterly quality.
