THE PLAQUES PROBABLY 19TH CENTURY, MOUNTED IN A 19TH CENTURY GILTWOOD CASKET
parcel-gilt polychrome enamel; comprising five rectangular plaques with scenes in cartouches inscribed 'POVR AYMER AN / VERTU.V' and 'SPERO.LVCEM'; the polychrome and giltwood casket with four compartments inside and a red velvet lining to the underside of the lid and a drawer to the right side; the underside with a paper label inscribed 'P48 / E de R / 149'

Baron Édouard de Rothschild (1868-1949).
Confiscated from the above by the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg following the Nazi occupation of France after May 1940 (ERR no. R 3932).
Returned to France and restituted to the Rothschild family.
By descent to the present owners.
