JBF, Boal 1900
Madeira
Wax capsules. Four damaged capsules. Stencilled bottles
Tasting note: Deep orange color. Fine honey cake and cacao nose, with aromas of roasted hazelnuts, sweet dried red grapes, all fine styled, lifely and very well balanced. Obviously aged for a 40 year+ period in wood then transferred to demi john. This ensured a slower development and better preservation of the fruit. On the palette dried fruits like on the nose, intense and fine, lovely lingering acidity emerging from the natural sweetness. Great wine. In the after taste dried blue berries, great complexity, this is more intense and sweeter then the Verdelho but so well integrated in the wine. Fine length. Amazing wine!
The three years later. From a bottle tasted with Ricardo at Barbeito showing its phenomenal length and complexity. Legendary wine. Such a shame the vineyards have been replaced by buildings. 98 points. The Verdelho is just a notch better. Very impressive and the best Madeira’s of this period. Last tasted March 2018.
