Details
This JBF (Jose B. Fernandez) Verdelho 1900, was bottled by FMA from Demi John in 2014. Private family source. From vineyards near the city of Funchal, next to the old family house. Unfortunately, these vineyards now don’t exist anymore. First taste prior to bottling in 2014.
JBF, Verdelho 1900
Madeira
Wax capsules. Stencilled bottles
Tasting note: Deep orange color. Rich complex nose. Fresh citrus and mandarin aroma, fine old wood furniture tones, refined needing air to open up to fuller and greatness. Developing a fine Napoleon Cognac nose, sweet rich texture, tough not as spirity as a Cognac. Gorgeous nose.
After some months the same bottle now giving more rich fudge and fine floral aromas. Very refined. Lovely flavor, full intense and well balanced, like a well matured fine Petite Champagne Cognac.
One year later; Medium sweet, intense start of taste, dried oranges, richer as you would expect of a Verdelho. The acidity is well integrated. A great fine styled softly sweet Verdelho. Very good.
At the pre-sale dinner later that year this showed itself; a marvelous, beautiful, well balanced, great wine.
Then in the Barbeito tasting room a similar high quality. Expressive, excellent fine taste. Intense. 99 points. Last tasted March 2018. EV.
