Lot Essay
Two horlogers signed their works Cronier A PARIS: Jean-François Cronier (1751-1806) and Jean-Baptiste Cronier, maître in 1781. This clock is identical to the one sold at Picard, Paris, 29 November 1992, lot 9 (J.-D. Augarde, Les ouvriers du temps. La pendule à Paris de Louis XIV à Napoléon Ier, 1996, fig. 223), signed by the bronzier René-François Morlay, maître in 1756. A further example of this model, also signed Morlay to the case, is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris (Inv. 36244).
