Lot Essay

This portrait is highly comparable to another by the Hoorn-based portraitist Abraham Liedts depicting Brigitta de Groot (1638-1686) holding a fan, now in the Westfries Museusm, Hoorn (inv. no. 02108). In both portraits Liedts employs analogous brushwork in his depictions of the lace, ribbons, feathers, and jewels in the sitter's ensembles.
