Lot Essay

The simple, austere lines of these cabinets create an elegant silhouette. The pair is distinguished by the thoughtful use of matched doors featuring a pattern of dynamic, swirling grain. A huanghuali square-corner cabinet with bookmatched doors and of slightly larger proportions is illustrated in Robert. H. Ellsworth, Chinese Furniture: Hardwood Examples of the Ming and Early Ch'ing Dynasties, Hong Kong, 1997, pl. 121.
