This painting is a copy after Giuseppe Zocchi’s (1716-1767) View of the Uffizi from the Loggia near the Arno River, one of the 24 views engraved for his volume of Florentine vedute, Scelta di XXIV vedute delle principali contrade, piazze, chiese, e palazzi della città di Firenze, first published in 1744. Zocchi’s preparatory drawing for this composition is now in The Morgan Library & Museum, New York (inv. no. 1952.30:22), and was engraved for the publication by Giuseppe Vasi (1710-1782).
