A SET OF FOUR FLEMISH PERGOLA TAPESTRIES
BRUSSELS, CIRCA 1600
Woven in wools and silks, each depicting a classical pergola of Renaissance architectural design supported by columns hung with flowers, the largest tapestry with a pergola of three bays, another of two bays and two of one bay, each pergola centred by classical vases filled with abundant bouquets of flowers, the background of each showing rural landscapes with towns and hunting and pastoral scenes, within a border with repeating bunches of flowers with a mask to each angle, within a blue guardslip, three tapestries with unidentified and partially legible weaver's mark, three tapestries with Brussels town mark 'B.B'
The largest: 103 in. (262 cm.) high; 139 in. (353 cm.) wide
The medium: 102 ½ in. (260 cm.) high; 88 in. (223 cm.) wide
The remaining: approximately 104 in. (265 cm.) high; 68 ½ in. (174 cm.) wide
