Lot Essay

In the years since the successful development and release of the Fender Johnny Marr Signature Jaguar in January 2012 (see footnotes to lot 82 and 83), Fender have created a number of one-off and custom colour variants for Marr, a handful of which were later developed for release as special limited edition production runs of the Johnny Marr Signature Jaguar. On Marr’s request, Fender built him a one-off Lake Placid Blue variant of his signature Jaguar in 2017, based on a favourite 1963 Lake Placid Blue Jag that he had used with Modest Mouse and The Cribs in 2007-2008. I’ve been after a blue one forever, Marr told presenter Shaun Keaveney at the Great Escape Festival in 2018 as he showed off the guitar. I’m not into collecting tons and tons of colours but I just really wanted a blue one… so this is my new baby really. To coincide with the release of Marr’s third solo studio album Call The Comet in June 2018, Fender released a limited production run of Marr’s vintage-inspired Lake Placid Blue variant. This is one of the production models that Fender sent to Marr for his personal use from the limited run of approximately 500.
