The Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph forms part of Cartier's celebrated Collection Privée Cartier Paris (CPCP), a landmark series produced between 1998 and 2008 that reinterpreted the maison's most iconic historical designs with exceptional mechanical movements. Inspired by the original Tortue created by Louis Cartier in 1912, the model faithfully preserves the elegant tonneau-shaped case that has become one of Cartier's most enduring designs. Although manufactured in Switzerland, every CPCP timepiece proudly bears the Cartier Paris signature on the dial, paying tribute to the maison's French heritage.
Produced in highly limited numbers, the CPCP collection is particularly admired for its collaboration with some of the finest movement specialists of the modern era. The present timepiece is powered by the hand-wound calibre 045 MC, manufactured by THA Ébauche, the renowned movement atelier founded by François-Paul Journe, Vianney Halter, and Denis Flageollet. Widely regarded as one of the most important collaborations in contemporary independent watchmaking, THA supplied movements of exceptional technical sophistication and finishing to a select number of prestigious maisons.
The calibre 045 MC employs a traditional lateral-clutch chronograph architecture incorporating an ingenious double swivelling pin system. This sophisticated construction ensures exceptionally smooth engagement of the chronograph mechanism, allowing the central chronograph seconds hand to begin its sweep without the characteristic jump often associated with lateral-clutch chronographs. Completing the watch is an elegant silvered guilloché dial with blued steel Breguet hands, perfectly complementing the refined proportions of one of the most desirable models from Cartier's revered CPCP collection.
