Lot Essay

The present timepiece is a rare and elegant example of the Rolex Day-Date reference 1804 in 18K white gold, distinguished by its lavish diamond-set configuration. The black dial is enhanced by eight brilliant-cut and two baguette-cut diamond hour markers, while the bezel is adorned with brilliant-cut diamonds, creating a refined balance between jewellery craftsmanship and the understated elegance for which the Day-Date is renowned. Combining the rarity of a white gold case with an exceptionally attractive gem-set configuration, the present watch is a highly desirable example of one of Rolex's most prestigious references.

Introduced in 1956, the Day-Date established a new benchmark in wristwatch design as the world's first self-winding, waterproof chronometer to display both the date and the day of the week written in full. Among its earliest references, the 1804 became one of the longest-produced representatives of the model and served as the diamond-set bezel counterpart to the classic reference 1803. Produced exclusively in precious metals, including yellow, white and pink gold, as well as platinum, the Day-Date quickly became Rolex's flagship model and a symbol of prestige. Throughout its production, the reference was offered in an extraordinary variety of dial, bezel, and bracelet combinations, allowing clients to personalise their watches while preserving the timeless design that has made the Day-Date one of the manufacture's most enduring icons.
